Whistler Jacket – Greenstyle Creations

Spring is literally around the corner and hopefully, we’ll be able to put our winter coats away for a while.

Greenstyle’s new jacket is a great transitional piece. It’s designed for low stretch fabrics and can be made with both knit and woven.

This jacket has so many possibilities and is drafted for low stretch fabrics!  It makes a great soft shell jacket for warmth or even a lightweight stretch woven for a light spring windbreaker.  It has an option for fun colorblocking in the back, princess seam side pockets and a zipper pocket in the back panel.

In addition to plain or color-blocked back, you can also choose between a collar or a hood and, ribbing or drawstring waistband.

My chosen options were: Collar, color-blocked back, princess seams pockets, drawstring waistband, and no back pocket.

The fabric I used is a stretch woven (Bengaline) and I used both sides of it to create the color-blocking.

I love the jacket, especially the back. So many mix-and-match possibilities!

I made a straight size E and didn’t add length to the jacket, even though I’m taller than what it’s drafted for. I wanted the jacket to hit me at high-hip as I find it to be more flattering on me, instead of around the hips.

The jacket is fairly easy to make but not a fast project. Depending on what options you choose, there’ll be a lot of steps to follow. The instructions are really good and fully illustrated, so no need to feel intimidated. 😉

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying working with wovens lately. It somehow feels more satisfying. Is that weird? Do any of you feel like that as well?

Maybe it’s because knit is so forgiving and will always sort of fit, and if a woven piece fits you know you did it right. Does that make sense?

That being said, I fully intend to make a Whistler with knit as well! I think a scuba one would be amazing, wouldn’t it?
