Foxy Bottoms

Foxy Bottoms – George+Ginger

It’s swimsuit season and G+G just released the cutest swim bottoms!

Foxy has a super flattering silhouette. It’s high-waisted and features a paperbag style waistband and some sweet front ties.

It’s perfect pair with your favorite tops and mix and match to our heart’s desire!

The FREE Little Black Bra is the perfect companion for this pattern. I blogged about the ones I’ve made a few days ago, you can check out that post HERE.

I decided to make Foxy in black so it could be a nice base for all the swim tops I’ve made lately.

The shape of these bottoms is so perfect!
It’s high-waisted and has nice coverage, but the angle of the leg openings makes it younger and less boxy.

The ruffle waistband and front tie is just the cherry on top. It’s unique and beautiful, as per good G+G fashion.

I love this set because even though I love bright colors, I still feel self-conscious when wearing a bathing suit and tend to stick to subdued colors.
Therefore the lack of color on this post. lol

That being said, I still love a good print! <3

I also love the proportions when paired with the crop top version of the LBB.

And you know me, I can’t help myself and my hacking ways…
I just had to give a ruffle-less Foxy a try!

Omg… I love it so much!
Even if you think the ruffles are not really your thing, the Foxy is still an amazing option to buid your future favorite swimsuit!

It’s a super easy mod.
I kept the waistband the same height and size as the ruffle one, so all you have to do is fold the pleats on the paper pattern to eliminate them before cutting the fabric.

And the fun thing is, that I can just fold the waistband down, yoga band style, and this gives me a different bottom.

And since this hacking thing is my favorite, I tackled a hack that has been on my to-do list f.o.r.e.v.e.r!

I made a swim top using the Lounge Gown, another FREE G+G pattern.

I’m so glad I finally did it and that it’s just as great as I had hoped it would be.

I sized one down as the Lounge Gown is meant to be a cover-up, and it’s not fitted enough for a bra/top. Next time I’ll probably size 2 down… This was was ok, but I like it to be very snug, so to make up for it I overlapped the front beyond the pattern notches. I believe it was a 4″ overlap.

Another adjustment was narrowing the back piece to eliminate the gathering. I just eyeballed it and forgot to measure it, sorry!

I was running out of lining fabric and had to add a center seam to the back piece, that’s what you’re seeing here. But if you follow the pattern, your’s will be smooth. 😉

The band was also winged, based on the LBB one.

Waistband unfolded
Waistband folded down

I like it folded down, and my teen made sure to tell me that it’s waaaaaay better like that, but I’m a sucker for a high high-waisted piece!

Next I want to make a longer top to have a one-piece look but with the bathroom-convenience of a two-piece. Genius, right? lol

All the tops I posted, aside from the white Lounge Gown one, are LBBs.
Other patterns that would be perfect for hacking into a swim top are: Starstruck, Clio, Selfie, NFSW, Edgy, Starc, Fleur, and even Crimson.

The sky is the limit!
