Romy – Gathered – Liviality

George+Ginger’s new release is amazing for so many reasons… It’s different, it’s cozy, it’s beautiful, it’s versatile and it’s, at least, 5 patterns in one set for the price of a single pattern (what?!)!

2 different kinds of boleros, one with a gathered neck and a simple neckband one;
Gathered neck is under bust length, simple is high bust length;
3 sleeve lengths: short, 3/4, long;
Boleros can be lined or unlined;
3 different V-neck tanks: Fitted, Flowy and Flowy dress.

My first Romy Set is a fitted tank with a gathered neck lined bolero with long sleeves and a fitted tank.

I couldn’t be any happier or more in love with it! It’s so cozy, warm and stylish, and has so many options, I feel that having this pattern set I good for the rest of winter!

One thing that always amazes me on Kristi’s work is her ability to make complicated looking pieces that have simple and easy to follow construction.

This lined bolero is a perfect example of that.
When I first read “gathered neck lined bolero”, I thought: oh oh! But once I started sewing I was flabbergasted with how easy and clever it all is.

The tank is a very straightforward pattern with a perfect fit.

I decided to make the whole set with the same fabric because I like how it looks like a one-piece sweater when worn together and, I can still wear them separately for a different look.

Sizing wise, the bolero should be made according to High Bust measurement while the tank is better guided by Full Bust (pattern comes with different Cup sizes!).

I made a straight size 10 Bolero and my tank is size 10 graded to 16, and fabrics I used are a quilted FT-like knit as main and rayon knit as lining.

The only difficulty you might encounter with this specific option of the pattern is that depending on what fabrics you choose to use, your machine may be in for a work out. But it’s all worth it in the end! Look at how awesome that neck gathering is! <3
