Knoxville Top – New Horizons Designs

Sometimes things don’t go according to plan but it turns out for the best.
This was definitely the case here!

When Terra from Love Notions announced the Knoxville Top test I jumped at the opportunity to apply. With fall weather here to stay, I need all the cozy sweaters I can get sew!

The pattern features so many options and can be made and worn all year round.

  • 2 knot options (bottom and twist);
  • 2 hem lengths (shirt and tunic);
  • 5 sleeve options (long, 3/4, elbow, short and sleeveless);
  • 3 necklines (crew, scoop, and cowl).

I used a lighter weight FT for my muslin and it was perfect from the get-go.

This is the shirt length with 3/4 sleeves, cowl neckline, and bottom knot.

I immediately fell in love with the cowl!
It’s drapey and cozy without being restrictive or too overpowering.

And how cute is that knot detail? I love it!

As soon as I had finished this one I knew what my next one would look like! I had snagged a beautiful and cozy FT from a scrap sale and it would be just enough to make a crew neck, 3/4 sleeve with a bottom knot top.

Aaaaand that’s when things went awry!
In my haste to make another, I started the cutting with the cowl piece and all of a sudden I don’t have enough fabric to finish the top. GAH!

I realized the mistake after cutting the cow, back and one sleeve. There was so little fabric left! It took me a while to figure out the error… it was supposed to be a crew neck!!! *facepalm*

I had to get a little creative in order to save it:
I adjusted the neckline of the back piece to match the front bodice, cut another back from a matching fabric and luckily managed to squeeze the second sleeve from the leftover fabric, I just had to shorten them a bit.

Top saved, albeit knotless, and I’m quite happy with the end result! A cozy basic top, who doesn’t love those? πŸ˜‰

The best part is that I had to go get more fabric for a new top and as soon as I saw this white sweater knit I fell in love with it and knew exactly what it needed to become.

I had planned to make a different option, for variety sake. But this needed to be another bottom knot, cowl neck one.

This is seriously one of my favorite sweaters ever!
So, yay for cutting my fabric wrong lol

Now I need to make a dozen more Knoxville tops and live my best Fall Cozy life! <3 πŸ˜€
Knoxville to snuggle with a book and a cup of tee, Knoxville to run errands, Knoxville for date night, Knoxville for the movies… I’ll even do my best to vary the styles and fabrics and resist the urge to put a cowl on all of them! πŸ˜›
